R/C Strip

Possibly briefly in use as a STOL strip, but not to be confused with the Aruba Flying Club airfield (De Vuijst Field) which was active from 1942 through the 1970s, to the south or the Palo Marga drag strip to the north, which hosted one landing and takeoff of a Canadian Learjet air ambulance 24 May 2006 which mistook Palo Marga for Queen Juliana International Airport (big whoops).

Runway 08T-26T

Note that the runway designations end in "T" because they're based on true rather than magnetic headings; that's standard for airports in the high Arctic.

This is a U.S. military base, operated within NATO under the 1951 Greenland Defense Agreement.

Not to be confused with Hamilton Municipal Airport

Hamilton Municipal Airport (KMNZ) has the FAA LID "MNZ", identical to this airport's IATA code, which confuses flight-tracking sites. Note that "HEF" is the FAA LID for Manassas Regional, but *not* the IATA code.

Not to be confused with Manassas Regional Airport

Manassas Regional Airport (KHEF) has the IATA code MNZ, which is identical to the FAA LID for this airport (the FAA LID for Manassas is HEF). This confuses most flight-tracking sites.

This multimillion dollar facility never took off. See Wikipedia article for one of the most ill-fated military aviation facilities in American history.

CLOSED!!!

As of January 1st, 2025, the airport is permanently closed. Nothing says honoring history like paving over the past. May the new owners fail miserably and never need to travel anywhere by air.

re: Closed

Reply to @Fadamor: Per your problem report: "The only thing remaining of the runway are broken bits of asphalt. Pilots wishing to fly into Raton, NM should use KRTN about 8 miles to the south of the former NM67."

Dulles Aviation Closed

KHEF is undergoing a major renovation on the West Ramp and in the future for the East Ramp. The Dulles Aviation Building and the neighboring hangar have been razed. The current plan is to upgrade the West Apron for more turbine services. Additionally, the Airport Management are working with the FAA to get scheduled passenger service using narrow-body aircraft (B737, A320, etc.) Currently those plans aren't expected to bear fruit for five years or so.

Closed

This airstrip used to provide service to the La Mesa Park (Horse) Racetrack that was located just across the street to the north. The racetrack and airstrip operated from 1946 to 1992.

Wounderful day destination

Flew in, rented a bike and peddled to a selection of restaurants.

A fun flight!

Beware the density altitude, the runway is shorter than many are accustomed to.

Most supportive operations experience

In Jan 2022 in what I recall was zero degree conditions, the operations manager made sure I was able to get my plane moved, warmed and able to depart.

Great destination airport. Nearby is the Iron B&B. Perfect base location to fly the Loring and Frenchville triangle of northern Maine.

24 hr SS 100LL and no fees at the time I utilized this airport.

Picture of Noreaster

Runway 32 approach is dramatic

The airport is on a bluff, much hgher the the surrounding terrain. The approach end of runway 32 is the most dramatic example of the land elevation difference.

This is the most northern of the northern Maine triangle of scenic airports. Caribou and historical Loring being the other 2.

I've cleared into the US here as well.

Nice destination, convention customs entry

Last time I visited was 2022, so comments might no longer apply.

Cleared in from Canada here. Comfortable operations building with 24hr access. No fees.

Picture of Noreaster

Wounderful destination...

Nestled next to Massachusetts highest peak, Mt Greylock, the operations building has 24 hr access to facilities, S.S. 100LL and parking.

No additional fees that I'm aware of.

re: frg

Reply to @sr22pilot1: Hi, just moved to NYC, I'm a commercial rated pilot needing to get back into it after years of inactivity. Looking for a school an glad for any kind of recommendation. Was flying 172s and small Pipers. Looking to get a multi endorsement and get serious about IFR currency.

Flew in early to beat the rush.

Super nice. I called a day or two ahead and Monica saved us a car. the lineguys were on top of their game and had us chocked and strapped down almost before we were out. My son and I went to see the UP 4014 Big Boy steam engine.

Shortest Commercial Runway

Juancho Y. Irausquin International Airport has a 400 metre runway! It is considered the shortest commercial runway in the world and has been updated at least thrice.

A great recreational airfield!

My first flight here was nothing short of amazing. Mr. Swank was very hospitable and it's only one of three Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) airports in Ohio!

Picture of N8033F

Rough asphalt

It was not too terrible, but the asphalt was a bit rough, more than what I expected for "fair condition". Otherwise, it's a neat airport to fly into.

Good alternative to CYQB, less expensive to land and to park.

Nice place for camping or lodging

The runway is in good shape, long and wide enough (5411 x 100). Some facilitys on site, lodging availlable in summer, camping also possible.

It is a PPR, so call in advance.

re: Home of the Prince Edward Flying Club

Reply to @david: Unfortunately, after 71 years of operation at the Picton Airport, the lease between the new owners and the Prince Edward Flying Club was not renewed. The Club was required to vacate the clubhouse and hangar by the end of June 2024. The new owners of the airport have long-term plans that include parks, housing, and further business and event-hosting development; the airport is not included in those long-term plans. By the end of 2024, it is expected that the airport will be permanently closed with the 3 runways to be removed.
