Charles de Gaulle Airport

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport is the principal airport serving the French capital, Paris, and the largest international airport in France. Opened in 1974, it is in Roissy-en-France, 23 km northeast of Paris and is named after statesperson Charles de Gaulle.

Charles de Gaulle Airport serves as the principal hub for Air France and a destination for other legacy carriers, as well as a focus city for low-cost carriers easyJet and Vueling. It is operated by Groupe ADP under the brand Paris Aéroport.

In 2019, the airport handled 76,150,007 passengers and 498,175 aircraft movements, thus making it the world's ninth busiest airport and Europe's second busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers. Charles de Gaulle is also the busiest airport within the European Union. In terms of cargo traffic, the airport is the eleventh busiest in the world and the busiest in Europe, handling 2,102,268 tonnes of cargo in 2019. It is also the airport that is served by most number of airlines, with more than 105 airlines operating at the airport.

As of 2017, the airport offers direct flights to the most countries and hosts the most airlines in the world. Marc Houalla has been the director of the airport since 12 February 2018.

Location for baggage collection in a strange place. I ended up out of the "safe" zone, and then I had to go back in to the baggage collection area. Weird.

Not a great transit airport, not a place you want to be, bad service, lousy shops and restaurants, no resting area.

Taken aback.

One of the most congested airports I have ever been in. Good exercise though, as walking is the only way to really navigate through the maze of people, carts and refuse. Surprised that it was so dirty as the French are usually meticulous regarding their public areas.

Has anybody figured out why this airport of all the airports on this site seems to get all the random drive-by spam? I must delete 2 or 3 comments a week from here. (And I'm still not sure whether "Hello. And Bye" and the Russian one are spam). It makes me wonder if the "code for this script" comment is about some spamming software.

My stay on the airport

Due to the heavy foc over the Seine I had to abort my flight with the Mistral PH-2R8 from Lelystad (EHLE) in the Netherlands to Pont sur Yonne (LFGO) and had to land on La Ferté Gaucher.

I was welcomed very friendly bij people of the local "club ULM" and offered all the help I need (hangerspace, fuel).

There was a nice hotel and restaurant at the airport, so I had a good night sleep and reached my destination the next morning.

BT frequency incorrect

Please update the VOR-DME frequency. It is now 116.1 MHZ

ignore the TAXI number in the pilot planning facility and use

TAXIS ABEILLE service 01 39 50 50 00. This worked ok in April 2010 and cost about 18euro into Versailles

Public Transportation

There is public transportation. A city bus (stop at a 10 mn walk) with regular schedule rides to Versailles, and from there Paris, by train.

LFPO Paris Orly NDB's

According to the "Service de l'Information Aéronautique" (SIA), (www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr)

NDB's OYE 349KHz and POY 430KHz are both discommissionned.

There are no longer NDB's on this airport.

Concord crash site

On 25 July 2000, Air France flight 4590, a Concord, had just taken off from nearby Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (CDG) with its fuel tank on fire. It attempted to divert to Le Bourget, but was not able to make it, and crashed into a hotel short of Le Bourget.

Yes, the airport closed in 1989. It was actually a well-known airport before that. I found the information in the French Wikipedia.

I agree, Paul. The Great Circle Mapper also has this airport, at almost the same location:

On the other hand, the 2008-06 ICAO Location Indicators doc no longer lists LFPR, so it looks pretty likely that it's closed. Can anyone confirm when the airport shut down? I've tagged it with my "fixme" tag for now, so that I'll remember to come back to it.

Paris Charles de Gaulle

Paris Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) is not very practicable. Difficulties to access by the périphérique "highway" crowded traffic (Trucks). Baggage claim zone is a terrible jungle. A positive point is the RER between Paris "Gare du Nord" and Terminals not very cheap but very easy to use and fast. Negative point, sometimes not reliable due to strikes.

Toussus le Noble

This is one of the BIG General Aviation Airport in Paris for Pistons and Small Jets. Airport of Entry 7 days a week. No public transportation available to Paris, a better option if you dont mind grass strips is LFPZ 6NM north with two parallel runways

I dont know what drugs were being used at the time by the architect that imagined that soviet-style concrete monstrosity. Not only is it ugly, but the baggage claim is an embarrassment with people walking on one another. When you think it's the first impression that so many holidaymakers are getting of France...

Other than for the bits that collapse on people underneath, T2 is somewhat more practical.

Well I am from the south of France, and we don't like Paris there, so maybe I have a bias.

RER

The RER (the commuter light rail system) runs directly into Paris, and you can use the same ticket to transfer to the Paris Metro or another RER line. It's very inexpensive (about 8.10 euros, I think).
