My favorite small town airport
I have landed here dozens of times to visit the in-laws. The first time was at night! It's a local family that owns it and offers good fuel prices. Tie down near the road or ask if there's hangar space. The paved strip is narrow, but there's lots of grass around it to use if necessary.
A wonderful airport for observing aircraft
I base my Grumman Tiger here. The FBO Journey's Aviation is very helpful. There is a place to sit to watch the many aircraft that land and takeoff, including gliders, singles, a few twins, both piston and small jets. There are even occasional parachute jumpers! The fenced in area in front of parking has a mock runway. EAA Chapter 1627 provides Young Eagle flights on spring and summer Saturdays, but sign up in advance at https://www.eaa.org/eaa/youth/free-ye-flights/become-a-young-eagle .
AOE
It is an AOE but you need to obtain an Overflight Permission to use it as an AOE
Took us about 20 minutes to clear custom
Very friendly
Beautiful Facility and Quick Service
The FBO was fast and efficient
Good Fuel prices and great pilot lounge
Great hospitality
Recently visited for fuel and overnight stop
Very helpful and great service
Hurricane damage
From problem report 2021-03-07:
"The rwy lighting is inop. There are steel cable tie downs; bring your own ropes. No fuel, no services; MYAM is closest fuel source. Terminal and fire fighting equip destroyed by hurricane Dorian, however AP is open and customs operates out of a trailer."

re: I Took My Instrument Checkride With Jean
Hello, I came across this website today trying to find out what happened to Rose Aviation at Hawthorne Airport and saw your post. My name is Linda Silvertooth, I am the Linda you mentioned in your post. I worked at Rose from 1977-1981 and have kept in touch with several other friends from those days (Kathy Hesse, Kevin Clover). I knew Jean as the former owner and and as an FAA Pilot Examiner, Art was the owner at the time I was there. Jean passed away in the early 80βs and Art passed away in 2018. I know Claude is gone also but I donβt remember when he passed. I took several check rides from both Jean and Claudeβ¦..great people!! I saw Don Pedersen in 2013 at a Rose reunion, he was the Chief of Police for Culver City at that time, but I think he has retired. Were you at Rose Aviation during those years? I went on to work for the FAA for over 35 years and retired in 2020. It was a great time during those days at Rose! Linda
Fuel stop
Would like to see in daytime. Stopped in for fuel because 05C doesn't have after hours fuel.
Dropped off a new freind
I would like to see it in daytime. Maybe even try out the Mexican. They need to put in self-serve fuel
Runway Cafe
I've never seen an airport diner that served pad thai before. Or mariscos. On the same menu as your classic burgers and steaks, and all excellent!
Stopped in for fuel
Just stopped in for fuel on my way by.
Plain little Airport
Went down do deliver parts and to work on a center pivot
Formerly an airport
According to Wikipedia, the runways were closed in 2004, and only a helipad remains.
The graveyard of the Atlantic
Heliport coverage by the FAA
... is NOTORIOUSLY bad. Even heliports that have continually existed for the last forty years are routinely given GPS coordinates up to 10 miles off course.
OPEN and GREAT!!!
The easiest airport for quick, friendly AOE processing into Mexico. 100LL available. Best port of entry for GA in Mexico.
Repurposed!
Hastings Field is no longer an active airstrip ... for fixed wing craft. There's a pretty shiny looking heliport there now though!
This heliport doesn't exist.
This heliport doesn't exist, and hasn't for *years*, if it ever did. There is no pad here, or anything else for a helicopter to land on besides sodden grass. There is no access besides a nearby dirt track. The Sun Drilling Products building is located miles away from the given location. Easily accessible satellite imagery with resolution adequate for spotting a helipad became available with Landsat 4 in 1982: there's no pad then, or in any year.
Fun place to land
The grass rwy is still maintained⦠landed there a bunch of times in 2021. Its not charted and you have to call or know the owner
I took a helicopter flight here
I'd always wanted to ride in a helicopter, so my wife bought me a ride on one -- I actually got to control it for a few minutes.
Former DEW Line station
This was a Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line station until 1963. The runway outline is still visible.
Ice runway
This airport looks like it's a seaplane base, but it's actually a seasonal ice runway.
DEW line
The Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line auxiliary station was actually at Qaqqatoqaq, nearby.
DEW line
The US military originally built this airport in 1956 as part of the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line to detect Soviet bombers attacking over the Arctic during the Cold War. It is now a civilian airport with STOL air service.
Makers Air

Looks like a brand new fbo. Great service. As of mid 2022 itβs pricey but I write this with Jet A at $8 at most places
