Re: Canada Customs

The St. Lazare airport is not a designated airport of entry for the Canadian Border Services Agency. Les Cedres airport to the south is an airport of entry designated for CANPASS permit holders only. Otherwise, you will need to clear at CYUL, CYMX, CYHU or CSE4 (Lachute).

Does anyone know why valleyfield airport has a new restriction on private use.

Hi,

I want to read more.

Great food!

Flew three friends here from Rockcliffe CYRO for lunch. It was a Friday, about 1:30, when I arrived.

Very busy - there were helicopter arrivals and departures, as well as lots of movements of SE fixed wing. The flying club / restaurant is at the east end of the runway (no taxiway), and there were several overshoots due to traffic not having yet cleared the runway (CSE4 uses R28 whenever possible, which results in less backtracking that R10).

No issues with language - lots of english in the circuit, with some french.

And the food!!! I had a simple club sandwich, and it was tasty beyond belief. With a ton of well-cooked frend fries. Those that had the smoked meat sandwich also raved about the food.

Reply to @AndreVenture:

Yesterday, at 9h45 the Supreme Court of Canada said that Aviation is under Federal juridiction ONLY!!!! The provincial and municipal governments have nothing to say about where and how to built an airport!!!

Fast food within walking distance

There's a McD's and a Subway just northeast of the field, there might be some other places too...

Very scenic but was a bit bumpy when I visited (lots of hills around).

Picture of

No real food on location

Despite what the CFS says, the only food available at the airport is vending machine stuff (not real food IMHO)

Now, I am a member of 'Our airports' and now I know who is ''the anonymous flyer''. David Megginson, the brave, who started this very interesting website explained me that anybody who writes a comment will be call '' anonymous fyer'' if he/she is not a member of this site!

I thought this could help others to understand the comments.

re: project not approved

Reply to @david: Welcome! I will keep you posted.

The seaplane base is in the WAS (Water Aerodrome Supplement). The 2 runways will be finish, on 0-3/8 compacted stone dust, in 2 weeks. TC came a month ago for inspection and as soon as I put the windsock and markers they will put Pontiac Airpark in the CFS.

I sold 3 lots. A 4th one is coming soon. His architect plan is done!

I was supposed to built the clubhouse this year but I was too late. I did not want to built during the winter months. Next year!

I should check the web more often about the Pontiac Airpark. I will now!

Fly high!

Andre.

P.S. Note that there is a NOTAM in effect: No touch and go at the seaplane base.

Picture of david

re: project not approved

Thanks for clearing that up, AndrΓ©. Let us know when your runway is operational.

Picture of

re: project not approved

To the anonymous flyer,

I am very VERY shocked about this VERY WRONG affirmation!!!

I am the developper of this project and I NEVER DID a CLEAR CUT ON MY LAND! I cut the minimum trees for the runways and the taxiways. I love the bush, I was raise in the bush and I want to live in the bush.

In 2005, my neighbour cut a lot of trees on his land and an environmentalist came in my office to tell me, and the medias, that I did a clear cut! Of course, this was wrong.

This project DOES NOT NEED APPROVAL from the provincial government.

Aviation (runways, taxiways and seaplane base) is of Federal juridiction. The seaplane base is approved (check the WAS) and the runways will be approved shortly.

The provincial rules states that you can not built at less then 10 (or 15 depending) meters from the water and that you cannot disturb a wet land. Each residential lot has to follow the municipal, provincial and federal rules. As long as you follow the rules nobody will disturb your peace. The municipality will approve your implantation plan for your building permit. The project, and each lot, DOES NOT NEED the provincial approval.

The municipality is pushing me to do this project. This will be great for the Pontiac.

AndrΓ© Durocher.

Owner, developper.

There is a small cafeteria in the terminal building, with pre-made sandwiches, etc.

Pumps

The Petro-T (PropAir) office is on the other side of the terminal, but the fuel pumps are here (there is a truck for Jet-A, but not for 100LL). The FSS can tell you where to park.

Price for 100LL (2010-09-22): $1.64/litre including tax

Picture of

check-in

You have ho help from anyone when you tried to check-in. It is the worst airport ever to catch a flight. Last friday on the security were badly organized, we lined up for hours. The plane to newark went one hour later (quite common) because the pilots couldn`t get in time through security. We lost our connections in Newark, because of that. Never again, it was a nightmare.

Seaplane base and airport

Good seaplane base and adjacent gravel airport, wide and smooth and well maintained. Dash-8s land here to transport hunters. Avgas and Jet-A pumps available at the dock and at the strip. Fuel price is reasonable since it can be delivered by road (this is about as far as the road goes!). The dock has room for five or six seaplanes. Buzz the adjacent outfitter buildings so that they know you're arriving (the buildings are about a mile away).

What a surprise!

I was in Montreal on Sunday 6 June, riding in the Tour de l'Isle bicycle ride. (I'm a cyclist and a pilot.) So, I was riding along Boulevard Gouin with about 25000 other cyclists, enjoying the river and the neighborhood, when suddenly this lot full of seaplanes appeared on my left. I almost fell off the bike! I couldn't believe it. What a neat seaplane base!

My suggestion to the operators - sign up to get one of Montreal's wonderful Bixi public bicycle stations at the base. Central downtown is an easy 15 km from the base, and Montreal is an extremely bike-friendly city. For those who haven't experienced Bixi, these are public bike stations. You put in your credit card, pay $5, and take a bike. Ride to wherever you're going, return the bike to the nearest Bixi rack (they're everywhere), and pick up another one for your return trip.

Fuel

This little airport is a short flight north of North Bay, Ontario, on the east side of Lake Temiscaming. I believe it is the westernmost public airport in Quebec, or at least, very close.

I called today to ask about a Hope Air flight next week. The person who answered was very friendly, and he confirmed that 100LL is available for $1.60/litre tax included (not an unreasonable price for northwestern Quebec). You have to give notice if you want fuel, but the person was very friendly, and said he had no objection to waiting around a few hours if my arrival time wasn't certain. We spoke in French, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to get service in English.

re: How much is Landing Fee CYQB?

If you are a light general aviation airplane, there are no landing fees. I go there every month or so and do pay a dime in landing fee. However, after one day at one of the FBOs, parking will run around $25/night, worth a phone call to double check.

Enjoy this beautiful city!

Picture of

How much is Landing Fee CYQB?

Anyone know? I have looked all over and I cannot find what the landing fee will be in CYQB. I am in the states and would be traveling there in June. Thanks

re: No french? no UNICOM

Reply to @anjp: I've never had any response from Maniwaki Unicom in either language. :)

It's true, though, that staff at FBOs for many smaller Quebec airports often don't speak English, or speak very little.

Picture of anjp

No french? no UNICOM

Been here a couple times and could never get the UNICOM to respond to my english... Other pilots in the circuit speaking french do receive a response. What can you do :-)

Friendly airport

Flew here for a Hope Air flight today. Everyone at the airport was friendly, especially the security guard.

There are two aviation fuel suppliers at Val-d'Or, Valpiro beside the terminal and Petro-T at the south end of the runway, but only Petro-T has 100LL. There's a little Casse-Croute (snack bar) in the terminal, but I'm not sure if it's always open. Since there were no scheduled flights due, the FSS guy let me park right in front of the terminal for an hour: the Petro-T truck drove up and fueled my plane a few minutes after I called.

The phone number for Hangar-Q (Petro-T) is 819-874-7000.

Be prepared to speak French: outside of Montreal and Gatineau, it's not a safe assumption that most francophones can speak English as well.

While you're in Montmagny...

one of the pilots for Air Montmagny also produces and sells maple syrup from his farm. 7.50$ CAD a can and it's very good. Available from the FBO.

Fall 2009 Update

I took a flight over there yesterday and it looks like some progress has been made since the last google earth pass. Will need to keep an eye on this one as an interesting place to be.

This airport was built by the RCAF, in mid 1950's. The runway are in conrete, and is still in good shape. This airport was no longer used and serves now as Dragway for ATV and motocross.

Good restaurant on site

Good food and cheap. Right at the fuel pumps. There is also an interesting water runway parallel to the main one.

What we found there.

Its a great private grass strip on a ridge with good views. They have all natural vegetables in season and fruits like apples and pears. They have several square dances each summer. Their club is the Fly'N Squares and they do "fast track".

re: Ottawa's mystery airport

I can't find any info about this strip - is it still private or PPR? I have done low approaches numerous times, it seems there are some terrain gradient challenges at the East end of the strip. I'd be willing to take the Husky in for a visit and offer an unbiased opinion on the runway conditions.

Reasonable fuel

The fuel was much less expensive than I expected this far north, about the same as in Toronto.

Spent a night here 2009-07-07

I flew a relative here from Ottawa, then had to stay for the night because of thunderstorms along my route. Karine at Aeropro was very friendly, and between my French and her English, we managed to communicate. They found a tie-down spot for me, and there was no charge for the night's parking, since I'd already bought gas.

Floatplane fuel available here

The lake just east of the runway makes it possible to land a floatplane here to refuel. The airport operator has a 400 litre tank on a cart that they bring to the shore.

Picture of philippe

Updated: fuel very expensive

A recent visit showed that they hiked the price of their avgas to an unreasonable 2.50 - more than twice the rate at my home base. Given that this base is not all the way into the boonies, this is rather excessive.

re: Ottawa's mystery airport

Hi everyone,

I was curious to see if my website was on the web yet so I did a research on Pontiac Airpark and found your site. I guess I was more surprise to find your post than David earing about an airport East of Arnprior. You are right there is and airport (airpark) 10 miles north-east of Arnprior. The east-west runway will be 3400 feet long with asphalt and lights. 59 residential lots are for sale and it is on the Ottawa river. Floats, wheels and skis are welcome. Check my website in a few days. AndrΓ©. 819-568-2359.

Hard airport to love

This is a hard airport to love, which is sad, since it serves one of North America's nicest cities. Everything seems to be badly organized: when you transfer from an international flight to a domestic one, you have to exit and reenter security, which is non-trivial when you might have to line up for an hour. In customs, they keep opening and reopening dividers to make new lines, so people who've just gotten off a plane might be let through ahead of people who have been waiting 20 minutes. The whole airport seems a bit dingy and run-down, there's not much good food (in *Montreal's* airport!!!), and nothing's particularly well organized.

I wouldn't use YUL as a connector airport if I had the choice, but if you're visiting Montreal itself, it's worth putting up with the hassle to visit such a great city. If you're coming from Toronto, though, take the train instead.

re: Accueil

Sounds great! I've flown over this airport a few times on trips from Ottawa to the Gulf or the Maritimes, but never thought of landing. Riding a rented bicycle around a quiet island in the summer sounds very relaxing.

Great little airport

just off the island of montreal, used more as a flight training school, but lots of private owners use it as well.

if you are looking to refuel fly 20mins west to cornwall regional, gas prices are cheaper because of less tax.

Cap-de-la-Madeleine BCATP airport

One of the BCATP airports that does not exist anymore. No trace of the runways remains; one or two hangars were still in use in the late 1970s, but barely recognisable. The position given is approximate. The Wikipedia article mentions its existence, but does not give its location. I know the approximate location because I come from the area and one of the old hangars was used as a huge disco night club in the late 1970s.
