Decent grass strip

Watch for the "marked" power lines at the North end of field. Not an issue, just be aware. Need permission from a property owner to land. Just land and ask, that's what I did. :)

Decent grass strip.

Supposedly need permission to land but all the numbers associated with this field have been disconnected. Land and ask an owner on the field, I'm sure you won't have a problem. No near by towns.

Condition

The airport that got left behind. I landed here back in 1979 and I believe nothing has been repaired since. The runway surface then was great! Today its a crumbling poor example of a runway. Very sad.

In the middle of nowhere.

No amenities. Great touch and go light mountain practice.

My home base

Great out of the way overbuilt airport. Hardly ever used but first class home port.

Two Tower Frequencies

There are two tower frequencies that should be noted. The east runway (31R/13L) is on 118.3. This is the frequency that should be used when departing this runway, or arriving from 0 to 179 degrees magnetic. The The west runway (31L/13R) is on 120.6. This is the frequency that should be used when departing this runway, or arriving from 180 to 359 degrees magnetic.

NICE!

The grass strip at Randle-Kiona Airpark is lovely. The folks who live there must be proud of their hard work at making their landing strip so nice.

Tacoma Narrows

Very nice people. They took very good care of us. We stayed a week and didn't even charge us a tie down fee. We will be back

Sharpening!

If you've let yourself get sloppy and cocky then Lynden will fix that! Great little airport but it does require that you make a stable approach at the proper airspeed. I take students in there about once a week if I see them getting too used to the 6700 feet at Bellingham.

State Campground beside this airport, but no facilities

State campground on both sides and a road passes close by. Not as quiet as it looks; you can camp on the field but there are walking trails crisscrossing the runway between the campgrounds and a steady stream of mountain bikers cross the runway. Despite being a state campground, there are no facilities, no restaurants, no stores close by.

When I was there in Aug 2009, there was a Forest Service firefighting team with two helicopters and a fuel truck operating from the airstrip. Approach from the South, along the lake. Runway rises to the North, then ends abruptly. There was a Warrior in the overrun with wiped landing gear, he floated and touched down late, ground-looping just before the steep drop-off at the North end.

Landing

IF wind permits, land to east and take off to west. Avoid fling over school.

re: FAA again

Although those big "X" marks on the runway might be a good clue.

FAA again

The FAA calls this a heliport, even though it has a 1600 ft long runway.

the best airport ever!

Pearson

An airport with a neat museum and a lot of history. Visited here for the West Coast Cherokee Pilot's Assoc. Fly-In. Great location, just review the chart carefully and be prepared to follow Portland's instructions, especially if not granted access to Class C airspace.

re: FAA duplicate

But the two records also list different owners. I suppose the only way this is going to be settled is for somebody to phone both owners.

re: FAA duplicate

I think that's why the FAA hasn't spotted the duplication. From the sat view, it's clear that they're the same airport, with the runway described differently -- there's not room for a second strip on the same island.

Picture of ptomblin

re: FAA duplicate

Oh, and the two records have different runways, one is 16/34 1500x75 and the other is "NW/SE" 1500x100.

Picture of david

FAA duplicate

The FAA has a duplicate entry in their database, listing this airport as both WA58 and WA93.

Closed in 2006

From 1964 until it closed in 2006, this airport was home to the Northwest Antique Airplane Club and the annual Evergreen fly-in. It was sold in 2006, but as of early 2008, had not yet been redeveloped.
