Can you imagine an airport here?

Per http://www.aerofiles.com/airports-CA.html, "[approx: 37-43-22N, 119-38-09W] (19??-19??) 1927 = W of Yosemite Village; "approximately 1300' square grass field, very dangerous." 1928 = (L) (Standard Oil ad, WnFly 1/28). 19?? = (R) Closed to flying activity." The listed coordinates place this at El Capitan Meadow! This does not appear to be listed on Freeman's Abandoned Airports site.

Site of Arizona Flying Circus Fly-in

Not quite the same location as the old dedicated airfield to the west, but in a way this resort continues to have aviation facilities in the 21st century. Pretty neat.

What a fun approach! Met family there and when the attendant saw kids come into the airport, he gave them all rubber band balsa gliders.

My Experience

Wouldn't Even Talk About This Airport If It Didn't Have A White Castle And The World's Largest Chevron. Very Nice Airport.

Picture of NYANWT

Very Crammed Airport

So Many Stuff And People Its Hard To Get Around. Outside I Hear Lots Of Cars. Worse Density Than SFO Or Even JFK Airport

Picture of NYANWT

Found it

Sometimes, the FAA coordinates are just plain wrong. I found this airstrip using Topo Maps and the address of the owner. It's closed now, but you can at least see where the airstrip was cleared out in past years.

Picture of JeffT

CLOSED

The Happy Valley Airport has been closed since at least 2009. Additionally, the runway is now being used as a driveway for a large house built at its southern end.

The Entire Airport Got Revamped

I Like How My Closest Airport To Me Got Changed ENTIRELY, The Terminals Are Now Different, and More Signs And Services Have Been Built

A Very Nice Airport

Welcome To The Conch Republic or USA! This airport is very nice and I like how it pinpoints the existence of the Conch Republic, i would have not known if it didn't Say "WELCOME TO THE CONCH REPUBLIC" On The Wall.

ROUGH pavement

There are so many weeds growing through the cracks this might as well be a grass strip

Used for 1992 Landing of Mickey Mouse One

Upon the retirement of Walt Disney's private plane Mickey Mouse One (Grumman Gulfsream I N234MM) in 1992, it landed here to be displayed at the adjacent MGM (now Hollywood Studios), as the old Walt Disney World Airport to the north had been blocked off by the construction of the monorail system. Further use of the site for aviation purposes has been permanently precluded by the No Fly Zone orders in place since 2001.

Picture of animebirder

A bit of forgotten aviation history

New York Airways ran helicopter commuter flights here 1965-1968, and again briefly in 1977. A landing accident here on May 16, 1977 killed four passengers and a pedestrian on the street below, ending the use of skyscraper helipads in New York City, though they remain in use in other cities elsewhere, primarily for emergency use.

My Experience At This Airport

Picture of LasTrancasGuy

Tiny but Nice Las Trancas Airport.

Las Trancas Airport Is A Very Tiny Airport in many ideas, Its just a dirt airsrip off of Highway 1, However, Las Trancas Is A Nice Airport, And I want others to know that it is a tiny airport, Since it is so Small, The airport is only limited to Piston Single And Piston Agricultural Aircraft. I want to try buying a plane and landing on the rather tiny airstrip myself, but well not yet... It's right next to a Lumber yard off of Highway One thats right next to the airport, The Airport is a nice airport, but its unknown, Even to Locals Of Davenport! It dosen't even has its own wikipedia Page!

The Airport has a nice but very tiny building thats Clearly Visible When Driving On Highway 1 because it has a wind measuring cone on the top. Its Very Small.

Ideas With the airport:

Buy A Piston Single Or Piston Agricultural Plane And Land Here Yourself, if you want, land here multiple times.

When the place is not used, Help develop the runway by possibly painting it or making it wider by clearing off the grass.

Maybe Add Some Lights, So The Cabrillo Highway Travellers Can See The Beautiful Airport, Also Maybe A Generator.

Idk, reply 2 this comment and give more ideas on what to do with the airport or more facts about the Las Trancas airport.

Runway ident changed

My bad, runway ident has been updated to 27. However, I do not seem to be able to add/edit threshold coordinates. Any idea why?

Picture of GeoFS

Runway ident changed

Runway 26 now appears to be runway 27 (as seen in google maps images). All changes I make in ourairports.com seem to be reverted (automatically or by someone). I sent an email to contact@ourairports.com but did not get any answer. Is someone still maintaining this website?

Picture of AirDVM

Runway numbers are changed

Current Runwy number 02-20. Incorrect in database.

Excellent Facility

The cheapest gas for over 15 years is right here

Great facility with courtesy car

Too bad the don't wear masks

Picture of animebirder

beware MSFS fake ICAO codes

Yeah, Asobo / MSFS have created a lot of their own GPS/ICAO codes for airports that are not congruent with reality, especially as heliports are not yet rendered in the sim as of the end of 2020 (so they wouldn't catch the duplicate).

Picture of animebirder

(no subject)

Recently paved and painted as of 20 Dec 2020. No perimeter fence, directly adjacent to FM 1470 to the south, private residences to the north.

Picture of animebirder

well that's a tight fit

Lots of signage warning pedestrians and motorists going into the adjacent parking garage of the "Helicopter Landing Zone". Rotor wash here must be all sorts of fun.

Picture of animebirder

Some more deets

Visible on the old topo maps available in CalTopo, and the eastern half of the runway is clearly visible running due east from the modern-day Lone Butte Casino.

After divorce with my husband

After divorce with my husband i went through a lot of difficulty. I took multiple loans which i never had money to pay back. Well, that wasn’t the best path as it affected my credit terribly afterwards. Got in contact with a specialist after the bank rejected all my proposal for more loan as I needed a new apartment and all I did to fix my credit on my own was all invain . Rich Skrenta Cleared off 3 negativities. RICHSKRENTACYBERSERVICE AT GMAIL DOT COM. fixed my credit in less than 11days.

re: bad runway

Reply to @flopp: Great catch -- thanks! Fixed.

Unusual IATA code "MDN" vs FAA LID "IMS"

The IATA still assigns the code "MDN" to this airport: https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/?airport.search=MDN

However, based on a problem report, it appears the airport itself does not choose to brand itself under that identifier: "MDN is not associated with our airport. It’s just IMS. Please take the MDN information off or please send me where you are getting information so that I can get it corrected. I’m the airport manager for the airport and I have been tracking down the source of this misinformation. Thanks"

Since IATA, and not the airport, controls the IATA codes, we will be keeping that code here for now. It would be best if the airport authority reached out directly to IATA to have the "MDN" code deleted.

Picture of wolfgangx

amazing

this airport and surrounding area are stunning

Any port in a storm...

I set down here today to wait out the passage of a wicked cold front. I hadn't realized that every building on the field had been literally demolished by a recent hurricane. So, after I tied the plane down (tightly), I climbed back in the plane and rode out the storm. A little lonely but the pyrotechnics were good.

Picture of wolfgangx

Expensive experience

Fees for a single engine piston was $365!
